The following is a sample list of projects in which members of our team of professional transportation engineers participated and made substantial contributions to various phases of project development. The projects extend over four continents and involve the ground transportation systems of a number of developed and developing countries. The successful completion of these projects illustrates the vast expertise and diversified experience that the CRISP team is able to bring forward for serving our clients.
In the United Arab Emirates
- Abu Dhabi, UAE - The Traffic Engineering and Road Safety Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police Department: A team of CRISP transportation engineers are tasked with conducting all road safety audits, traffic analysis and studies, statistical analysis of traffic-related accidents, new techniques for enforcement of traffic laws, driver behavior studies, driver notification systems, and the design and specifications of the IT architecture for the new intelligent traffic management system.
- Dubai, UAE - Comprehensive Improvements in El-Ittihad Road: the objective was to make comprehensive traffic improvements on this very important passage road between Dubai and Sharjah Emirates. Work included Improvement of existing road, traffic survey and study, traffic signing and road marking, improving traffic movements to ensure free flow of traffic, and review of the safety of the projected road in terms of design and operation.
- Abu Dhabi Capital District - Abu Dhabi, UAE: Transportation study for the Capital District (future federal, commercial and luxury residence hub for Abu Dhabi city), assessment of internal proposed road network, public transit, etc. for the master plan of this mega-project.
- Dubai, UAE, Al-Khail Road Improvements: One of the objectives of this project is to make comprehensive traffic improvements on this vital road in Dubai. The Project required improvement of the existing road and widening it. Traffic work included conducting impact studies, traffic signing and road marking and assessment of existing features of the road such as pavement quality, street Lighting poles, traffic signs, etc.).
In Egypt
- Rod-El-Farag Road (2009), Cairo, Egypt, The new road is 37 km in length and is located west of the city of Cairo. The road connects the Shobra district to Cairo/Alexandria desert highway. The responsibility assigned to the CRISP engineer included the highway geometric design and preparation of the detailed drawings and tender documents, and preparation of the project specifications.
- Development of tunnel in Luxor City (2009), Luxor, Egypt: This project included the planning of Al-Karnak Tunnel, preparation of the detailed drawings, preparation of the BOQ and tender documents, and preparation of all project specifications.
In the Netherlands
Projects in Rotterdam, Netherlands in which CRISP consultants were engaged and their role included:
- Parklane: This is a corridor study to solve congestion problems in this vital road connecting a new development to the existing road network: (project Manager), data collection, analysis, redesign of intersections, installation of new traffic signals, traffic signals coordination and optimization of existing ones.
- Schollevaartsedreef: A traffic impact study to assess the impact of a newly developed residential and commercial area on existing network and to develop connectivity to the road network and improvement of existing junctions.
- Rotterdam Central: Due to the extension and modification of the Main Train Station in Rotterdam city, the traffic impact on the existing road network was assessed and integration with other modes of transportation was considered.
- Hofplein: This signalized roundabout is the hub of Rotterdam city, redesign of geometrical layout and traffic signal, optimization with priority control for public transit (trams).
- Randstad Rail: An LRT project between Rotterdam and The Hague. Studying the integration of this newly introduced line inside Rotterdam as project team member.
- Maasvlaakte: This is a new area in the port of Rotterdam with heavy freight transportation. Objective was to accommodate the heavy freight vehicles movements and providing suitable access points to this newly developed area.
- Vaanweg Junction: This is a grade-separated junction in the Ring Road of Rotterdam with acute capacity problems due to a nearby over-saturated traffic signal and other causes. A Vissim micro-simulation model was built to solve these issues.
- Feasibility study for application of LED-lamps to traffic signals in Rotterdam, also preparation of an Applicant’s Guidelines document.
- Project “ Monitoring Rotterdam”: This is an integrated ITS system in order to monitor the traffic congestion due to incident occurrence, bridges openings, special events or over-capacity situations in the primary road network of the Greater Rotterdam Area using automated traffic data collection and analysis algorithms and techniques and then to provide information to road users on DRIP’s (Dynamic Route Information Panels: VMS) to choose the appropriate alternative routes within the existing road network.
In Canada
- Pavement Friction Evaluation of Different Mix Types (2005), Ottawa, Canada: This project was funded by the City of Ottawa, Ontario, to initiate a database for pavement friction history of different pavement mixes and to monitor the change in friction characteristics due to traffic and environmental conditions. Data were collected on eight different road sections near the City of Ottawa using a friction trailer at different times over a 3-year time span.
- Indirect Tensile Testing of Cold Recycled Asphalt Mixes (2003), Ottawa, Canada: Among several paving technologies, the use of recycled asphalt serves in the conservation of resources. In this project, three types of recycled asphalt mixes were assessed using Marshall test where asphalt briquettes were fabricated and tested in Carleton University’s Laboratory according to the LS-297 standard set by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
In the Gulf Cooperating Council (GCC) Region
